This is one of the hidden museums in Ireland. It is
privately run but well worth a visit if you have any interest in the Kennedy
family.
We visited on July1, 2005
Lilliput Lane "Kennedy Homestead"
is based on this farm building near Dungangstown which is still in the
possession of descndants of the Kennedy family. The farm and museumis run by Patrick Grennan, another descendent of JFK's great-great-grandfather , James
Kennedy. It was james' son Patrick who emigrated to the USA.
Very little of the original building
exists, but the left hand end in this picture is a bedroom which is now
the right hand end of the current building
The family Tree which shows both JFK and Patrick
Brennan.
This barn houses many photos of the
Kennedy family including items connected with JFK's public visit in June
1963 and Jackie's private visit with the children after JFK's death. It
also has a bedrrom typical of the 1840's when James Kennedy left Ireland
for the US.
"When my
great grandfather left here to become a cooper in East
Boston, he carried nothing with him except two things: a
strong religious faith and a strong desire for liberty.
I am glad to say that all of his great grandchildren
have valued tht inheritance."
JFK at New Ross, June 1963
