A personal note from John
S (I posted on Facebook): I feel it
has been a great privilege to work with the team including all
the riders and other support guys. They started from Whitehaven
in sun – and finished at Tynemouth in sun …..but… I don’t think
any of us will forget the morning of June 8, 2017. That has
nothing to do with other national events that day but is about
the brave riders fought their way up very steep climbs in
howling winds and driving rain. Watching Philippa, for a long
time in the dry of a cafe, determined to pedal all the way up to
Hartside epitomised what it was about. The photo (taken by
Cheryl and showing very wet Philippa, Phil and Logan) below may
seem strange, but during that day the conditions were so bad the
they had to take shelter in a cowshed.
The other wonderful
thing about the week was working with Charles and Steve. I
remember Steve before his liver transplant having many
operations to get rid of infections. Each day we were concerned
and worried that he was weakening. Then, after the operation and
a long recovery, he was back to normal and, this week, has
certainly shown great dedication to keeping the team on track.
There could only be
one choice for where any funds raised should go. The team at
Addenbrooke’s who looked after Steve are developing new
technologies to make the transplant process more effective.
So, if you haven’t
given yet, please do. If you have given already, you may want to
give more.
