Wadebridge

Up

I first stayed in Wadebridge in 1952 staying with friends, the Gowings. I have returned on many occasions since....
Wadebridge station is now a day centre and Museum including the office of John Betjamen The Swan Hotel where I attended a folk evening in 1968!
The "Bridge on Wool" at Wadebridge
The original bridge, built in 1470, is reputed to have been built on bales of wool, used as foundation for the piers sunk into the deeply sanded riverbed.
This bridge was built in record time as part of a "Challenge Anneka" program in 1991
